Course Brief

Budget and fee chargingstudy places: The studies at the Latvian Academy of Culture may be funded from the national budget of the Republic of Latvia in the tender procedure, if the international applicant is a citizen of the EU, EEC, Swiss Confederation citizenor a permanent resident of the EU, provided that the applicant’s knowledge of the Latvian language corresponds to the CEFR level A2 (for further information please see: Otherwise the applicant is entitled only to the fee charging study places.

The goal of this subprogramme is to teach interdisciplinary methods regarding culture in society and culture research processes, as well as management and leadership. Its key words: cultural understanding – cultural research – cultural industry and management.   

  • Learn about methods that can be used when analyzing cultural aspects of society;           
  • Strengthen national and international cultural organization, management, leadership, and creative ability;           
  • Learn how to analyze and research information about sociopolitical processes in society;           
  • Set up reasearch-based skills involving culture and other phenomena;            
  • Install knowledge of foreign languages;           
  • Develop teamwork in the work place.     


This study program is formed so that graduating students have a considerable amount of knowledge about cultural processes and overall cultural information and facts. The students will also be proficient in a foreign language and know the process of cultural and sociological research studies: data and analysis proficiency, cultural organization and management process skills. The program’s interdisciplinary format allows students to continue their education to receive masters and professional degrees (in humanitarian and sociological study programs).


The work force requires these skills in cultural sociology and management:

  • Organize and produce cultural organizations and productions as a creative initiative;            
  • Group and store data for cultural marketing, analization, and structure, as well as organize data about society and other topics;           
  • Organize and produce cultural presentaions such as shows, concerts, festivals, and other programs;           
  • Assist in the growth of the creative industry and complete cultural management projects

The Academy takes into consideration the scores of several examinations:     

  • The applicant takes the English (or French, or German) foreign language examination at the Latvian Academy of Culture during the entrance examinations.
  • The mark(s) in the first language and literature is/are registered based on the Secondary Education Certificate’s Academic Transcript.
  • Essay about a literary theme, that displays a creative reflection about the given theme, displays a balance between facts and opinions, displays the ability to argue and stand up for the student’s beliefs, and displays the ability to answer questions regarding classic and modern day cultural questions.
Anda Laķe

LKA asociētā profesore, socioloģijas doktore ( Anda Laķe ir Akadēmijas prorektore zinātniskajā darbā un Zinātniskās pētniecības centra vadītāja. Uzsāka darbu Latvijas Kultūras akadēmijā 1997.gadā kā lektore Kultūras socioloģijas un menedžmenta katedrā. Kopš 2004. gada ir gan katedras vadītāja, gan LKA akadēmiskās bakalaura studiju programmas „Mākslas” apakšprogrammas Kultūras socioloģija un menedžments vadītāja.
