Ance Kristāla
Biography
In 2017, Ance Kristāla graduated from the Latvian Academy of Culture Bachelor’s study subprogram “Sociology and Management of Culture”, and continued her studies at the University of Latvia, entering Master’s study program “Sociology”. She wrote a Master’s thesis in cooperation with poets, researching different features of identity and the possibilities of their discrimination.
In parallel with her Master’s studies, she has started working at the Scientific Research Center of the Latvian Academy of Culture as a research assistant, but after graduation also as a guest lecturer.
Ms Kristāla has gained a noteworthy experience of applied research during her Bachelor’s degree studies, participating in field work, but the most important applied research in which she took part is the research commissioned by the Ministry of Culture on the “Latvian School Bag” initiative - “Preparation and Implementation Process of the Latvian State Centennial Program Initiative “Latvian School Bag”” in 2018 and “Evaluation of the Content Selection and Implementation of the Program “Latvian School Bag” in 2019", which was implemented in 2020. Equally important was the participation in the working group implementing the study “Assessment of the Impact of the Latvian State Centennial Program Implementation for the Period from January 1, 2015 to 2018”. Currently A. Kristāla together with colleagues is researching the Latvian Intangible Cultural Heritage Communities in the framework of the FARP project “Community Participation in Cultural Heritage Governance: Practices, Developments and Challenges”.
As a researcher A. Kristāla’s is interested in a wide range of topics - sociology of culture and art, art-based research, studies of gender, race and sexuality, social inequality and inclusion, globalization, sustainable development as well as the sociology of food.
