Biography

Ilona Asare holds a Master’s degree in Cultural Management from the Latvian Academy of Culture (2005), she completed a course on cultural policy-making in post-Soviet countries at the Central European University in Budapest, studied European Cultural Planning at De Montfort University, UK. I. Asare boasts years of experience in the development and management of regional and international cultural projects, evaluation of project applications. In 2005, she founded the think tank “CultureLab” (culturelab.com), which conducts regular cultural policy studies and organizes further education courses for leaders of cultural organizations.

Areas of interest - the impact of culture on urban development, activities of cultural and creative sector organizations. The developed Cēsis Cultural Strategy is recognized as one of the good examples of sustainable urban cultural policy in European cities. Currently, research on contemporary challenges in urban culture management is being conducted as part of her doctoral studies.
