Event Info
On May 25 at 15:00 the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC) will present the collection of research articles “Te-Ki-La: Readings on Theater and Cinema”. The event will take place in conjunction with the presentation of the new MA programme of the LAC “Audiovisual and Performing Arts”. The 6th edition of “Te-Ki-La” will include research articles from the latest graduates of the BA programme “Theory of Audiovisual and Performing Arts”, as well as excerpts from the original plays of the graduates from the MA programme “Theatre Art (Specialization: Contemporary Dramatic Texts)”. The new interdisciplinary MA programme, which will start accepting students in August 2018, will be introduced by the head of the programme, asoc. prof. Zane Kreicberga.
This opening event for the yearbook “Te-Ki-La” is the perfect opportunity to introduce the new MA programme, which has been created in collaboration with the department of Audiovisual Art and the department of Performing Arts. The programme combines and further develops the existing MA programmes “Theater Arts” and “Audiovisual Art: Filmmaking and Production”. Up to now the Latvian Academy of Culture has offered MA degrees in Stage Directing, Contemporary Dance Choreography, Playwriting and Film Directing and Production. However, with the new programme it will offer additional degrees in Stage Acting, Cinematography, and the Theory of Performing and Audiovisual Arts. This will give the contributors to “Te-Ki-La” the opportunity to return and continue their studies at the LAC.
“Te-Ki-La: Readings on Theater and Cinema” includes 11 research studies and essays on the different aspects of the theory of Audiovisual and Theatre Arts covering conceptual cinema, the analysis of theatrical problems, as well as the historical perspective of certain phenomena and using an interdisciplinary approach to break down the borders between different genres and aesthetics. The authors of this collection are Lāsma Bērtule, Dārta Ceriņa, Katrīna Daugule, Ildze Terēze Felsberga, Laima Graždanoviča, Gvido Grūbe, Zane Kreicberga, Inga Pērkone, Dāvis Sīmanis, Madara Sokolova and Zane Timoņina. Included in the collection are also excerpts from the plays of Anna Zvaigzne, Laura Lapiņa and Ivo Briedis. The publication of “Te-Ki-La” has been made possible with the financial support from the the State Culture Capital Foundation (SCCF) and the LAC Research Centre.
The new MA programme “Audiovisual and Performing Arts” will offer a choice of three fields of study: Audiovisual Arts, Performing Arts or Contemporary Dance with specializations in theory, dramaturgy, stage directing, film directing, choreography, cinematography, stage acting and stage and cinema production. The programme is based on the idea of using interdisciplinary approach both in research and in creating works of art. The programme will pay special attention to research and will encourage student collaboration in projects and masterclasses. The structure of the programme will offer a good balance of theory and practice, as well as wide opportunities for the students to design their own study curriculum and gain international experience. Following the presentation, visitors of the event will have the opportunity to meet with the professors of the new program: Prof. Inga Pērkone, Prof. Pēteris Krilovs, Assoc. prof. Dāvis Sīmanis, Prof. Olga Žitluhina, Assist. prof. Ramona Galkina, Lect. Dainis Jurags and others. The programme has been submitted for accreditation.
