Biography

Mg.art., Head of the Eduards Smiļģis Theater Museum (since 2014), Rector of the Latvian Academy of Culture (2004 - 2014), Vice-Rector of the Latvian Academy of Culture in academic work (1991 - 2003), Professor of the Theater and Audiovisual Arts Department of the Latvian Academy of Culture (since 1998). Member and expert of HEQEC Study Program Accreditation Commission (2004-2013), Chairman of the Theater Council of the Ministry of Culture (2000 - 2009), member of the Supervisory Board since 2010. Member of the Board of Professors of the Latvian Academy of Arts (since 2009), Member of the Latvian Advisory Council of the “Golden Mask” Festival in Riga (since 2006), Member of the Jury of the Latvian Professional Theater New Production Show (1998-2005), Chairman  (2008, 2010), Member of the Latvian Creativity Foundation Board (since 1997), Chairman (since 2011). Member of the Latvian Theater Labour Association (since 1997) and Board member (until 2013).

Scenario author and director (together with Mārīte Balode) of the Latvian television cultural and historical series “History of Latvian Theaters”-  “Latvian National Theater” 12 parts (2006 - 2009); “Dailes Theater” 13 parts (2007-2010); “Liepāja Theater” 7 parts (2007), “Valmiera Theater” 8 parts (2008). Scriptwriter and director (together with Mārīte Balode) of three films of  Latvian television cultural and historical series “Staging of the works of Rūdolfs Blaumanis in the professional theater” – “The Variegated Life of Blaumanis' Tailors' Days” (2012), “Blaumanis. Indrāni. Message.” (2013) and “Blaumanis' Comedies” (2014).   He has created thematic events about outstanding Latvian performing arts personalities (Arnolds Liniņš, Pēteris Pētersons, Kārlis Pamše, Aleksandrs Leimanis, Eduards Pāvuls, Felicita Ertnere, Līvija Akurātere, Lilija Dzene, Milda Klētniece and others). Artistic director of the Baltic Students’ Song and Dance Festival (since 1991) and chief director (2004, Riga, 2014, Daugavpils).

Author of the idea of the LAC performing arts festival “Patriarch’s Autumn” (together with Kristīne Želve and Juris Jonelis) and artistic director of the festival (2010-2015).

Scenario author and director for several performances, including concert performance “We rejoice in our power” dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of the LAU (2013), the RTU’s 150th anniversary grand performance “Create Further on” (2012), III Latgale regional dance group festival “Sadancis” in Preili (2012), Riga dancer festival “Regions dance in Riga!”, (2011), dance Grand Concert in Riga “Give me strength, give me time” (2015).  Scenario author and director of the XXIV Latvian Professional Theater New Production Show Closing Ceremony “Players’ Night” (2002 - 2007; 2013, 2014) as well as of the Highest National Awards Ceremony (1993 - 2015).
