Applications Open for New Micro-qualification Programme on Culture and Health in the Baltic Region

25.06.2025

A new and innovative micro-qualification course titled "Culture and Health: Managing Cross-Sectoral Initiatives" is now open for applications. Designed for professionals from the culture, health, and social sectors, the course offers a unique opportunity to build interdisciplinary competencies to support inclusive well-being, social change, and cultural participation among vulnerable communities.

The programme is developed and delivered by a consortium of four Baltic universities – the Latvian Academy of Culture, Riga Stradiņš University, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture. The course runs from September 2025 to June 2026 and awards a micro-certificate equivalent to 10 ECTS.

“This course fills a critical gap in professional training by preparing a new kind of practitioner who can lead culture and health initiatives across sectors,” says Inga Surgunte, one of the programme’s lecturers and coordinator of the Museums on Prescription programme in Latvia.

The course is tailored for professionals residing in Latvia, Estonia or Lithuania, including:

● cultural workers, artists, and creative practitioners active in community-based or socially engaged work;

● health and social care professionals interested in integrating cultural approaches into well-being practices;

● project managers, mediators, and policymakers involved in cross-sector initiatives at the intersection of culture and health.

Participants will explore the intersections of culture, health, and social inclusion; learn to apply arts-based and participatory methods in health and social contexts; gain expertise in cross-sectoral project planning, budgeting, and management; develop and implement a real-life pilot project in their local context, with the support of experienced mentors.

The course comprises 250 academic hours and includes both online and in-person sessions, theoretical lectures and practical experience, as well as individual and group work. A detailed course description and curriculum is available online (link).

Thanks to the support of the ERASMUS+ project “Inclusive Wellbeing Through Arts and Culture in the Baltics (WITAC),” the tuition fee for 20 selected participants will be fully covered.

Interested applicants should submit a motivation letter outlining their interest, professional goals, and readiness for cross-sector collaboration, as well an up-to-date CV, filling in an online application form.

Application deadline is 10 August 2025. Online interviews with shortlisted candidates will take place in August, and final selections will be announced by 3 September 2025. An informative webinar for prospective applicants will be held on 4 August at 16:00 EET.
