Associate professor of the Linnaeus University (Sweden) Anders Fröjmark visiting the Latvian Academy of Culture
On March 20 and 21, 2018, the historian and associate professor of the Linnaeus University Anders Fröjmark gave two guest lectures at the Latvian Academy of Culture on the theme "Swedish Language, Culture and Mind-set", thus providing students with an insider’s perspective on the Swedish society and culture.
In order to understand where Swedes stand today, it is necessary to get acquainted with the historical background of Sweden. With such a wide topic, however, it is impossible to cover everything in just 2 lectures, nonetheless, as Anders points out, one have to start somewhere, and fortunately for him, students were interested in asking questions and engaged in discussion.
Prof. Anders Fröjmark has been keen on returning to Riga for several years already to both give lectures and carry out research, as one of his research interests is the intercultural relationships between the Nordic countries and Baltic States: "I really like Riga with its rich history and beautiful architecture. I do my best to maintain relationships with our Erasmus+ partners here – the University of Latvia and the Latvian Academy of Culture – and hopefully we can help the students of the Linnaeus University discover the charm of Riga and the Latvian Academy of Culture in the future as well.”
