Guest lectures by prof. Laura Hidalgo Downing
Over the last three decades the Latvian Academy of Culture has established a broad network of student and teacher exchange within the framework of the Erasmus Programme of the European Union. One of the latest Erasmus Exchange Agreements has been concluded with Universidad Autonoma in Madrid which enabled a week of lectures in Madrid delivered by Prof. Anita Načisčione last May and a return visit of Prof. Laura Hidalgo Downing to the Latvian Academy of Culture. She is a cognitive linguist, and we are happy that this week she has kindly agreed to read a lecture course on Metaphor and Multimodality which will include the following themes: Metaphor, Metonymy and Creativity in Discourse; Multimodal Metonymy and Metaphor in Advertising; and An Introduction to Multisemiotics. All these themes are part of the Study Programmes of the Department of Cross-Cultural Communication and Foreign Languages.
