Head of the Department of Cross-Cultural Communication and Foreign Languages of the Latvian Academy of Culture Visits Carinthia University of Applied Sciences
From July 8 to 10, Dr. Laila Niedre, Head of the Department of Intercultural Communication and Foreign Languages at the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC), visited Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule Kärnten), a partner university within the European University Alliance ACE²-EU. The purpose of the visit was to explore areas of mutual interest between the two institutions in the context of cultural and linguistic diversity, as well as to outline potential opportunities for cooperation.
In discussions with FH Kärnten professor Dr. Colin Heller, it became evident that both institutions share a strong appreciation for cultural and linguistic diversity and a common understanding of the development of intercultural communication competence through cultural and language interaction. Initial steps were outlined for collaboration both within the framework of the ACE²-EU Alliance and bilaterally.
Dr. Svetlana Buko, ACE²-EU coordinator at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, extended an invitation to LAC students and lecturers involved in the study of Italian and German language and culture to participate in the Applied Blended Challenge (ABC) programme titled “Intercultural Project Management Practice: Challenges of Cross-Border Cooperation” in the spring semester of 2026. Joint implementation of specific study courses
between the two institutions is planned in collaboration with Prof. Colin Heller for 2026 and 2027.
