LAC and Inholland University of Applied Sciences Students Engage in a Programme for Designing Future Creative Spaces
The Latvian Academy of Culture (LCA), in collaboration with Inholland University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam, has launched its first-ever opportunity for undergraduate students to participate in an international Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) program. This initiative aims to foster cross-cultural exchange and innovative approaches to shaping creative environments of the future.
As part of the "Creative Entrepreneurship" course curriculum, an international collaboration was integrated, bringing together second-year students from the LAC "Cultural and Arts Studies" program and students from Inholland University of Applied Sciences' Urban Leisure & Tourism Lab. This initiative aimed to foster interdisciplinary exchange and practical insights into the intersection of culture, entrepreneurship, and tourism.
The students used VR headsets to collaborate on creating a vision of a future creative space for 2050. The project, titled "The Creative Seeker's Journey," challenged teams to imagine new ways to unlock creativity in an era where traditional creative spaces have evolved or disappeared.
They developed unique concepts by incorporating:
•Personal creative rituals
•Cultural aspects from team members
•Futuristic interpretations of traditional spaces
•Interactive elements possible in VR
The teams chose one of the following formats for their presentations:
•Interactive Performance – Multiple scenes in different VR spaces with audience participation.
•Virtual Installation – Environments that represent the journey with symbolic and interactive elements.
•Immersive Poem – Visual poetry in VR, blending movement, gesture, sound, and visuals.
A big thank you to Kasia Głowicka for this amazing initiative and Esther Bouw for the continuous support! Special thanks to Asnate Kaleja for leading the process and helping the students navigate the world of virtual reality!
The development and integration of the pilot program are planned within the SPACE Centre's international study program offerings under the European Universities Alliance ACE²-EU platform. This initiative ensures alignment with global educational trends and innovations in the academic environment.
