
LAC Institute of Arts and Cultural Studies Represented at the Prestigious Conference on Baltic Studies in Europe in Cambridge
From 24 to 26 April, the 16th Conference on Baltic Studies in Europe (CBSE), organized by the Baltic Programme of the Cambridge University Centre for Geopolitics, was held in Cambridge, United Kingdom. The Latvian Academy of Culture’s Institute of Arts and Cultural Studies was proudly represented with several research presentations and active participation in discussions.
Lead researchers Anda Laķe and Rūta Muktupāvela presented their paper on collective singing as a precondition for social inclusion and exclusion, focusing on the discourse of ethnic minorities. Lead researcher Gustavs Strenga delivered a presentation exploring cases of public speaking in medieval and early modern historiography on Livonia within the Northern European context, analyzing the tension between locality and transnationality. Researcher Zane Radzobe shared her study reflecting on the Ukrainian war as portrayed in Latvian theatre. Meanwhile, researcher Līga Vinogradova and research assistant Laura Brutāne discussed ways to enhance youth civic engagement through cultural participation, using Latvian museums as a case study. Additionally, research assistant Žanete Eglīte contributed to a panel discussion on the role of regional institutions in strengthening societal resilience in the Baltic area.
