Latvian Academy of Culture Researchers Take Part in the European Researchers’ Night for the First Time
On 26 September, the Institute of Arts and Cultural Studies of the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC) joined the European Researchers’ Night for the very first time, offering workshops, lectures, and masterclasses for young people, families with children, students, and all those interested. The event gathered more than 180 participants, who had the opportunity to explore a selection of LAC’s research topics and projects, step into the role of a researcher, try out different scientific approaches, and discover how academic research shapes society, the arts, and everyday experiences.
Visitors became “digital detectives” by learning to identify fake news, played traditional courtyard games, discovered cultural traces in everyday life, and joined a research walk through the Miera Street neighbourhood. Film heritage enthusiasts visited the exhibition “Conjuring the World. Latvian Film Designers” and attended lectures to learn how student films and essay films become valuable research sources.
Big thanks to the researchers and students who prepared and carried out the activities, as well as to the team of the LAC Latvian Film Museum. We are grateful to the teachers who brought their classes, and to every visitor who actively took part and, for a moment, became researchers themselves.
Special thanks to Research Latvia for coordinating this important science communication platform – it was a wonderful opportunity for our researchers to meet young audiences whose curiosity and energy remind us why research truly matters.
The aim of the European Researchers’ Night at LAC is to show that research is not only an academic endeavour but a living and creative process, closely connected with our daily experiences, the arts, and culture.
See you again at the European Researchers’ Night 2026!
