27.02.2018

Nordic Summer University’s artistic research study circle 7 (2016-2018) Winter Symposium "ReActivate, ReVisit" will take place at the Latvian Academy of Culture Theatre house "Zirgu Pasts" from March 2 till March 4, 2018.

More than 40 researchers and artists who employ interdisciplinary collaborative approaches in their practice will take part in the symposium. The theoretical and artistic research proposed within the study circle “Practicing Communities: Transformative societal strategies of artistic research” seeks to actively include new practitioners and dialogical strategies. It offers a unique, creative and critical context in which to continue practice and research emphasising longevity and slow research. The circle aims to share ways artistic research can explore and create transformative societal strategies. It provides a space for theoretical and artistic experimentation and cross-fertilization of methodologies and aims to develop insights that could be used in further research.

The Study circle “Practicing Communities” is a migratory non-hierarchical group of international artistic researchers. Since its inception, the primary aim has been to provide a forum for experimentation and cross-disciplinary collaboration welcoming members both from within and outside of universities and art institutions.

The symposium welcomes anyone interested to take part as an auditor. Working language - English.

Since 1950 the Nordic Summer University (NSU) has been an independent, academic institution, which organises symposia that draws international participants across disciplines in the Nordic and Baltic regions.

NSU fundamentally operates as a generator of ideas. It seeks to develop scholarly and innovative initiatives by building international networks and communities engaged in cross-disciplinary research enquiries and critical thinking. The NSU gives priority to topical subjects of study that are often on the margins of disciplinary boundaries not already established at the universities.

NSU stimulates research development and offers open access to new knowledge in a non-hierarchical environment for established academics as well as independent and emerging researchers, artists and other professionals. All aspects of NSU are democratically organized by its participants. Activities in the NSU consist of thematic study circles, each of which meet regularly within the Nordic and Baltic region in summer and winter seasons over a three-year period.
