Representatives of the Latvian Academy of Culture Take Part in an International Training Programme on Preventing Domestic Violence
In November and December 2025, the international Applied Blended Challenge Programme (ABC) “Equipped to Act: Building Professional Competence in Preventing and Responding to Domestic Violence” will take place at Constantin Brâncuși University in Târgu Jiu, Romania, within the framework of the ACE²-EU European University Alliance.
The programme involves representatives of the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC): Katrīna Dūka, research assistant at the Institute of Arts and Cultural Studies, and Sintija Skrabe, a 2nd-year master’s student in the Audiovisual and Performing Arts programme and a choreographer. They will contribute to the module “Art and Culture as Tools for Emotional Expression and Processing” through lectures and workshops.
K. Dūka will lead a lecture on artistic research methods and the concept of the body as an archive, as well as a creative workshop “The Body as Archive: Exploring Memory, Emotion, and Identity Through Embodied Practice.” Using movement, text, and personal artefacts, participants will explore the body as a living archive of memory and emotion, while developing reflection and empathy skills.
S. Skrabe will offer a lecture “Your Body, Every Day: Exploring Embodied Experience Through Contemporary Dance” and a practical workshop “Movement, Trust, and Connection – Contact Improvisation in Contemporary Dance.” The session will provide participants with an opportunity to discover body awareness, personal boundaries, and mutual trust through movement and improvisation.
The programme’s overall aim is to prepare future professionals for effective prevention of and response to domestic violence by fostering understanding, critical thinking, and practical skills. Participants will explore legal, psychological, and social perspectives, engage in simulations and case studies, visit professionals in the field, and collaboratively design proposals to improve prevention and support mechanisms.
