Studies Have Begun at the Latvian Academy of Culture
Last Saturday, February 1st, we concluded Welcome Week for the new spring Erasmus students. The week was full of interesting events, but most importantly, it gave students the opportunity to meet each other, get acquainted with the Academy, and explore Riga.
This semester, we are proud to host 22 international students from 10 different countries: Italy, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Slovakia, Estonia, Poland, Turkey, and Kazakhstan. Students have shared that they chose the Academy for a variety of reasons, including its course catalogue, which aligns well with their studies at their home universities, and their interest in Riga and Latvian culture.
Welcome Week began on Monday, when we introduced students to essential information about the upcoming semester, the Student Council, and some facts about Latvia. Students also had the chance to explore the Academy’s premises and participate in icebreaker games. On Tuesday, we continued with a tour of the National Film School, where students visited the teaching rooms, including the school’s rooftop. We later visited the Latvian National Museum of Art to learn more about Latvia's art and culture. Wednesday featured a Latvian dinner and folk dances at the folk club Ala, where students experienced traditional Latvian cuisine and joined local folk dancers on the dance floor. On Thursday, students participated in a guided tour of Riga’s Old Town, discovering its rich history and landmarks. Friday ended on a high note with a Silent Disco party at Tallinas Ielas Kvartals, where students danced to both Latvian and international songs. We wrapped up the week on Saturday with a visit to the National Library of Latvia, where students admired the impressive architecture and enjoyed panoramic views of Riga from the top floor.
