17.12.2025

Focusing on performing arts, the special issue “Acting. Reacting. Enacting. Theory and practice in performing arts research” brings together a selection of research articles inspired by the conference “Acting. Reacting. Enacting. Theory and Practice in Performing Arts”, which took place in Riga in 2023 during the Baltic Drama Forum. The included articles critically examine evolving paradigms in theatre practice and theory across diverse cultural contexts. The volume covers a wide range of themes – from artistic research to postdramatic performance, from the historical legacy of political theatre to institutional and research challenges in post-Soviet and contemporary contexts, with particular attention to the Baltic theatre landscape.

The structure of the issue follows the conceptual framework outlined in the conference – acting, reacting, enacting – moving from theoretical reflections on acting to the socio-political dimensions of performance and, finally, to institutional perspectives, thus reflecting the broad spectrum of performing arts research.
