On May 3, which would have been the 85th birthday of the Latvian national poet Imants Ziedonis, the 5th annual award ceremony ‘Time for Ziedonis’ took place in the concert hall Great Amber in Liepāja. The award ceremony is organized  by the foundation ‘Viegli’ (“Lightly”) founded in honour of the poet himself.

This year’s award in the category for outstanding work in research “Charge of Butterflies” was given to Maija Dambrova, the leading researcher at the Laboratory of Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, and professor of the Riga Stradiņš University Department of Pharmacy, and Academician of the Latvian Academy of Science.

Among the five nominees in the category was also the vice-rector for research of the Latvian Academy of Culture and the head of the LAC Research Centre, professor Anda Laķe. The award for achievement in research in this category is awarded to a Ph.D. who is a guiding light for others in their field of research. Even though prof. Laķe did not receive the award,  she continues to be a guiding light to her students, family and the young researchers and her colleagues.
