The project aims to conduct a representative survey of children aged 9-16 on their internet usage habits, devices and access, online activities and platforms, digital skills, online risks and harms, exposure to unwanted content or behaviour, safety strategies, parental and teacher support, and children's attitudes and well-being in relation to the digital environment. It is an international study that aims to increase knowledge about children's opportunities, risks and safety online. The study was previously carried out in 2011 and 2018 and its results have helped to develop recommendations and initiatives for a safer digital environment for children.
Since 2025, the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC) is the official Latvian representative in the international research network EU Kids Online, which brings together academic partners from more than 30 European countries. The network is coordinated by the University of Oslo (Professor Elisabeth Staksrud) and aims to promote a deeper understanding of children and adolescents' experiences in the digital environment, including the identification of both opportunities and risks associated with the use of the internet.
