H. E. Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to Latvia Ms Eimear Friel visits the Latvian Academy of Culture

H. E. Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to Latvia Ms Eimear Friel visited the Latvian Academy of Culture on 12.05.2022. and delivered a lecture to students to the Department of Cross-Cultural Communication on the theme “My Ireland”. It was devoted to significant aspects of Irish culture and identity, bringing out the role of tradition in Irish cultural processes, including the oral tradition of storytelling and the development and role of Irish traditional dancing. The use of PowerPoints and short videos highlighted the essential points of the talk, which enhance the understanding and knowledge of the Republic of Ireland. It was an insightful and memorable event/experience.

LAC has successfully collaborated with our partner institution “Coline”

“Coline” is professional training for dancers in contemporary dance, and is based at the Maison de la danse in Istres, France. At first, Coline hosted LAC students and allowed them to participate in contemporary dance performances as dancers in France. The cooperation project is formed in two parts: first, COLINE representatives invite Latvian dancers to the city of Istres in France, where students live and work for about a month (currently 10 dancers from Latvia have participated in performances in France), then the Latvian Academy of Culture hosts 13 Coline dancers and companions in Riga for two weeks. These weeks include lessons and performances in Riga and elsewhere in Latvia.

Consultations about MA study opportunities at the Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC) in the international programmes “Creative Industries and Growth Management” and “Cultural Heritage Governance and Communication” will be available on March 17 at 10:00 via the online platform Zoom. For those interested, there will be an opportunity to meet the programme directors Elīna Vikmane and Ieva Zemīte, to learn about the Latvian Academy of Culture, the content of master's studies and the Latvian state scholarship for foreign students.
