Almost 1 million euros in EU funding allocated for the development of the Latvian Film Museum
Through a competitive tender process, the LAC has received almost 1 million euros for the creation of the newest permanent exhibition “Stories of Latvian Cinema” (“Latvijas kino stāsti”) and development of the “Mirdza” auditorium at the LAC Latvian Film Museum.
The funding will allow to create a modern and accessible film museum where everyone can learn about Latvian cinema. According to research carried out by the LAC, people are often met with difficulties in regards to accessibility and content availability. The project will alllow to create not only physically accessible and user-friendly exposition spaces and film auditoriums, but also interesting and diverse content, so that visitors of all kinds can explore Latvian film in their own way. “Thanks to the awarded funding, Latvian Film Museum will be able to live up to its name – here, Latvian cinema will be explored by young and old alike, families and senior citizens. To put it another way, the exposition will be created with everyone in mind. The “Mirdza” auditorium will also be a great asset which will “shine a light” on both new and forgotten films,” says the director of the museum, Inga Pērkone – Redoviča.
Tha Latvian Film Museum is temporarily unavailable to visitors, but behind closed doors the new exposition “Stories of Latvian Film” is taking shape: the exhibition spaces are being arranged, multimedia content created, and events being planned that will take place even before the museum is reopened. The new permanent exhibition “Stories of Latvian Film” in Miera street 58a is scheduled to open its doors to the public in autumn 2028.
As part of the project, the content of the Latvian Film Museum will be made available in the Latvian Museums mobile app. It is planned to include a digital audio guide, a virtual tour, and augmented reality cinema-themed walks around the city.
